Don(SMRTQUOT)t tell, but the real secret to our success is our hiring process. We spend an unusual amount of time getting to know you and in ways that other companies haven(SMRTQUOT)t gotten around to caring about. We(SMRTQUOT)re looking for something more. It(SMRTQUOT)s a bit of a pain, for both of us. But you just might wind up working with the most fascinating people you(SMRTQUOT)ve ever met in the most stimulating environment you(SMRTQUOT)ve ever experienced.

Vertigo seeks genius user experience designer to join our growing team of world-class designers and developers.

For 12 years, we’ve built a reputation (and client list) that allow us to work on some of the most innovative and high-profile interface projects around. (Windows Marketplace, for example. No small potatoes.) Still, it’s likely you haven’t heard of us. That’s partly due to our size, which is intimate by design. But it’s also because our work has been more engineering/development -focused – the guts beneath the GUI.

Vertigo is now aggressively expanding our UX design practice – interaction design, information architecture, and visual design – to complement our extensive development expertise. We’re looking for senior, ambitious UX designers who can “own” (contribute as well as potentially manage) the user experience effort through all phases of a project.

The ideal candidate has at least 3-5 years experience, including work with database-driven, web applications. You must understand complex tasks and user behaviors and be able to translate them into engaging and intuitive interfaces. At Vertigo, you’ll design rich applications that leverage the latest technologies. As a design leader, you will also help shape Vertigo’s evolving identity. Our culture is uniquely collaborative and supportive ¬¬– you’ll be constantly learning and experimenting while delivering at the same time.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and specify user interfaces for large-scale, custom applications
  • Conduct user requirements and task analyses
  • Produce user requirements specifications, personas, scenarios, wireframes, flow diagrams, design prototypes, and design specifications
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
  • Give live and written presentations

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years experience, with a focus on web-based and client-based productivity applications
  • Solid knowledge of user interface design processes and methodologies
  • Excellent consulting skills; strong client relationship skills
  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Visio, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Microsoft’s Expression Studio
  • Knowledge of various user-research methodologies and experience contributing to user studies (i.e., planning, test scripts, paper-based and electronic assets)
  • Knowledge of capabilities and limitations of Web technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, Flash, and CSS; HTML/JavaScript/CSS production skills are a plus
  • Degree in HCI or related design discipline

If this sounds like you, please e-mail your resume in Word or PDF format along with a link to your online portfolio to btan@vertigo.com with “User Experience Design Position” in the subject.
